My first teaching class/ 2nd term 2014
Thursday, August 14th- 2014
Jose Daniel Medina Aguirre
Following
the teaching classes in the second term, my first class was on Thursday, August
14th 2014. I started my class
about five to seven a.m. because something happened. I arrived a little bit
late to give my class because of the schedule and the traffic. I did start
happily, though. I started with a warm up, and it was about “what’s your name
and your favorite superhero?”. As it was my first class, I did it to know their
names and have a little fun. I spent in this activity over four minutes.
After this
activity, I had to make a review of the past topic, and it was noun clauses.
Well, the teacher had given me a page with three categories: noun clauses
beginning with THAT, with QUESTIONS WORDS and with WHETHER or IF.
I was feeling
just as worried because of the topic, but nevertheless, I was prepared to this.
I prepared sentences strips with the same sentences that were on the sample
page. Later on, I gave to every student a sentence to be analyzed. I wrote on the board the three categories, and
I asked the students to identify the noun clauses and their function, whether
they were functioning as subject, object or complement, for later to be pasted on
the board in each category. I spent
about ten minutes doing this.
Well, the
second and the last activity was an identification practice. I gave a page to
every student. That was a worksheet. Over there, there were twelve sentences in
which the students had to continue classifying noun clauses and identifying
their function as well. For this, I pretended to have a little fun, and I
played the hot potato game for all the students to participate classifying the
noun clauses and underlining their function in a chart that I prepared. This chart
was the same that the students had in the pages I had given to them. It was
interesting for me because they did not do the same things all the time, and
they were laughing with this game. Therefore,
they did everything nicely, and finished my class exactly at seven thirty a.m.

ResponderEliminarHi Daniel, you started your class very early, and you had to make a review of the previous class, too. But you say that you were worried because you had prepared another activity, and something pretty similar happened to me, so that is a common issue for teachers. So in that case, it is important that we calm down because sometimes the nerves make that we get confused. It is good that you motivate students to participate, and playing the hot potato game is a good idea because students feel eager to participate, and they don't sleep in class, so you developed a good teaching class, I really imagined myself being in your classroom while I was reading this, blessings Danny.
